Traditional Literature
Many of you might remember reading this book as a child. At the beginning of this book the mother ducks eggs hatch. One of the other ducklings look very different from the others. All of the other ducks made fun of him for being so ugly. They constantly made fun of him and the other animals starting doing the same. The duck soon ran away and …. take a look at this book for yourself and see what happens once he runs away.
This book has a lot of difficult vocabulary so this would be for a second or third grader. The book has a lot of meaning and promotes children to not bully based on how someone might look or act. It focuses on how important it is that someone might not look or act like you, but they should still be your friend and you should not make fun of them.

I love this children's tale! There are so many uses for a story like this in the early childhood classroom. I agree with you on this being a book that may be more suitable for 2nd or 3rd graders to read themselves, however I also think it could be a perfect edition to earlier grades as well because of the meaning behind the story!
